the theme for this tour was #wasteourtime2020
actually who are we kidding, 70% of our calls are a waste of time even under non-pandemic conditions
uh hello ma'am good morning why have you called at 5 am because your leg hurts? yeah we know it's been hurting for three years and we see you walking on it. why is this an EMERGENCY?
oh you want a new wheelchair because yours got stolen?
again,,,WHY THE HELL IS THAT SOMETHING YOU CALL AN AMBULANCE FOR? DID SOMEONE GRAFFITI OUR AMBULANCE TO SAY WE DELIVER WHEELCHAIRS (a real patient complaint from yesterday that I didn't feel like drawing)
also re: good cop versus bad cop:
i end up as the good cop very often. or sometimes it's bad cop/worse cop and i'm still the better one.
i feel this is because i am
1. largely female-presenting 2. am asian
3. speak at a low tone and volume unless proper pissed
and so presumably have a less threatening/more accommodating perceived presence than my male/white partners. woo racism/sexism! in reality nobody i've ever worked with has been mean to patients. they are simply less inclined to put up with someone's bullshit and more vocal about it. i have a patrick swayze in Roadhouse approach to rude patients and also i've just had years of practice about how to hold my tongue when my boundaries are being encroached on. thanks, parents!
